Funds Management

Committed to Transparency and Fiscal Responsibility
The Gabriola Health Care Foundation is committed to transparency and careful fiscal management of all of its funds. GHCF maintains a detailed account of every significant piece of equipment in the building, including purchase dates and expected life spans. The restricted donations dedicated to the Health Centre Fund received in the year, plus a significant portion of any operating surplus that is added to that fund each year, is set aside to cover anticipated needs for the repair or replacement of equipment or building components, as well as any future expansion needs.
Our accumulated reserves enable us to act quickly when a piece of equipment needs replacing or if a major capital expense becomes necessary. These funds remain untouched until needed, ensuring we can respond promptly and effectively.
The Foundation manages funds granted or bequeathed to the organization. Currently the committee administers three funds: Kitty Heller Fund, Health Centre Fund, and a Medical Equipment Fund.
The Kitty Heller Fund is an example of how a bequest can be dedicated toward those things that a donor wishes to support and then have administered by GHCF. This $100,000 fund was bequeathed to the Foundation in 2012 to be used for health promotion programming.

Stronger Together program designed to improve the emotional health of parents/guardians of young children and build a strongly connected community of parents on Gabriola. Stronger Together was supported by funds from the Jay Dearman Run, Kitty Heller, and Island Health. Our Community Wellbeing Program funds a variety of activities. To do this we depend on contributions like those of the late Kitty Heller who provided $100,000 to enable us to offer health promotion and prevention initiatives. The fund is now almost depleted. If you would like to invest in improving health outcomes for your community, please consider making a donation today.
